Karl Karter
Jewellery Made From the Inside Out
Karl Karter is a jewellery artist, goldsmith and designer with more than 30 years of experience working in Hatton Garden, London’s historic jewellery quarter.
His journey into jewellery began at 15, when he started his traditional training as a goldsmith. From those early years at the bench, Karl went on to work at some of the industry’s most respected jewellery houses, including Graff, developing an understanding of fine jewellery, diamonds and the precision required to create exceptional pieces.
But it was always the making that interested him most.
Over the years Karl has worked across a huge range of styles and commissions, from traditional diamond engagement rings to contemporary, highly individual designs. His own work combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with a modern design language influenced by architecture, modern art and sculpture.
Today, Karl continues to design and make jewellery from his workshop in Hatton Garden, working alongside a small team of traditionally trained craftspeople.

Karl Karter Jewelry
Karl’s jewellery is bold, sculptural and architectural, often playing with proportion, geometry, structure and negative space. His designs sit somewhere between jewellery, sculpture and objects of art.
His influences are broad, but a fascination with Brutalist architecture, Carlo Scarpa and the work of modernist artists such as Kazimir Malevich and Lyubov Popova runs through much of his work. These influences are not about imitation, but about the way Karl approaches form, balance, movement and the relationship between materials.
Karl Karter Jewellery is where Karl’s imagination has complete freedom — experimental, distinctive and unmistakably his own.

Traditional Skills. Modern Design.
Karl believes traditional jewellery-making skills still have a place in modern design.
His approach is not about reproducing the past. It is about taking techniques that have been refined over generations and using them to create jewellery that feels contemporary, individual and built to last.
From a bespoke engagement ring to an entirely new piece of jewellery, every commission begins with the same principle:
Start with an idea. Work with the maker. Create something that belongs to you.
This is the philosophy behind Karl Karter and London Rocks Jewellery — real jewellery, made by real craftspeople, with the client at the heart of the process.

Why London Rocks?
Karl founded London Rocks Jewellery with a simple idea: take away the middlemen and bring the client closer to the craft.
The jewellery industry can feel disconnected. A client may buy a piece through a showroom, speak to a salesperson, have the design passed between different companies and never meet the person who actually makes the jewellery.
Karl wanted to do things differently.
London Rocks was created as a platform where clients can come directly to the workshop, talk to experienced designers and goldsmiths, discuss their ideas, choose their diamonds and gemstones and see their jewellery being made.
From the first conversation and initial sketches through to fabrication, stone setting and finishing, the work stays within the workshop wherever possible. It means better communication, greater involvement and a genuine connection to the craftsmanship behind the finished piece.
