When buying or commissioning an engagement ring one of the first things you need to establish is whether the ring will need be Wed-fit of traditional.
We are always surprised at how many clients haven't been made aware of this concept.
Traditionally rings would have been made low to the finger with a gallery setting and finger bezel. This design will not allow a wedding band to sit flush against your engagement ring. Certain shapes and sizes of stone only make this issue worst.
nowadays we have the wed fit , sometimes referred to as snuggle fit or wedding ring friendly engagement ring. A wed fit design sits higher off the finger with a more prominent setting ,this style is very popular but some do find them irritating and cumbersome. Large elongated stones in the 3 carat size range can incur some real issues .
About 80% of the engagement rings we make are wed fit as most want a normal straight wedding ring and plan to wear it all the time even when not wearing their engagement ring. Many clients think a fitted weds looks odd worn on its own. but some love the look ,there really are no rules when it comes to your person taste.
However this is really something that needs consideration before you purchase an engagement ring. Your engagement ring will determine which wedding band will work with your ring.
For example if you opt for a lower set tradition ring you will have a gap between your wedding and and engagement ring.
Alternatively if you have a modern, higher wed-fit setting, only a straight band will work as a shaped band will never sit in line with your engagement ring and will constantly rotate separately.
This is quite rare but some ladies really have their heart set on a fitted ,shaped wedding band but actually played no part in creating their engagement ring.

If you have a traditional low set ring design then a custom made fitted band is the best route and there are many different ways to create something unique . Our fitted bands are hand made around your existing ring, which means leaving your engagement ring with us so we can work around it . This is the best way to insure a good snug fit.
Having a shaped band really elevates your engagement ring and adds a new dimension to your stack. There are different profiles like round, flat and knife edge and many textures you can add for a more organic feel.
Of course you can add small diamonds or sapphires and some ambitious clients like to opt for jacket designs in which your engagement ring drops down into, giving you a double sided ring.

We work in Platinum and 18ct yellow or rose gold.
Platinum a popular choice for wedding rings due to its hardness and natural white sheen that never fades or changes colour .Known for being non reactive and hypoallergenic .
Gold known for its timeless allure and its warm, lustrous hue has a luxurious appearance. Our gold is 18ct which is 75% gold this blend is perfect for jewellery with the correct hardness and and perfect tone.
Rose gold is more niche, but suits every skin tone, It is 75% gold mixed with copper and is know for its subtle antique colour
Wedding Ring Shape Guide
After you’ve decided on metal, you should consider how your wedding ring will complement your engagement ring – after all, you’ll wear both of them -side by side- for the rest of your life.
Is your engagement ring wed fit!
A shaped wedding ring (also referred to as fitted).
If your engagement ring has not been designed slightly elevated as a wed fit, you will need a shaped band custom made to fit your distinct ring. There are a range of options to choose from, from a pronounced V shape to a slight curve.
Even if you don’t opt for a shaped band, you should consider the ring profile. you could also gap stack but these modern solution are precarious if fine and skinny which easily get caught in hair or on jumpers resulting in a completely distorted wedding ring
D-shape band -
The profile of this band, as the name suggests, has a distinctive 'D' shape and domed appearance. With a flat internal edge, its overall finish is soft.
Flat band –
This ring is flat on all sides for a slightly chunkier style with a heavy feel. The prominent flat edges between the bands’ surface makes the 'flat' one of the simplest styles.
Court band –
This is a classic band shape (rounded inside and out) that works for many styles, its arced inner and outer surfaces offer maximum comfort.
Flat Court –
This shape has a modern aesthetic, with rounded inside edges that ensure comfortable long-term wear.
Wedding Ring Width Guide
It’s important to get right to ensure that comfort isn’t compromised. If you’re wearing your wedding ring with an engagement ring, you’ll also need to consider the width of the two rings together.
the majority of Ladies have been obsessed with the skinny band engagement ring for the past 5 years and usually will match their wedding band to that of their engagement ring, possibly going for a contrasting colour or adding some diamonds.
recently we have seen women pairing much wider bands of 4mm or maybe even 5 mm with their skinny bands, a cool look.
Men on the other hand seem to be going in the other direction. Men you have come a long way since the 90s when every wedding band was at least 10mm wide. These days guys tent to go for a more sophisticated thinner band. 5mm and 4mm are our most popular but 3mm is gaining .
